Augustin von Cranach

Augustin Cranach (* 1554 in Wittenberg , † July 26, 1595 ibid) was a German painter.

He was the son of Lucas Cranach the Younger and Magdalena Schurff. On March 6, 1564, he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg . Augustin Cranach continued the tradition of the Cranach workshop and held several honorable posts. On November 26, 1577 he married Marie Selfisch (born January 27, 1558 in Wittenberg, † January 15, 1626 in Delitzsch), a daughter of the Wittenberg bookseller and mayor Samuel Selfisch .

In 1584 and 1587 he became a council member in Wittenberg and was also a member of the council in 1590 as councilor and in 1593 as a city judge. In addition to Conrad Fluth, Augustin Cranach was a deputy to bring Polykarp Leyser the Elder from Braunschweig back to Wittenberg as General Superintendent.

He died on July 26, 1595 in Wittenberg.
