In the name of God, Amen. I, Azariah Dumas of the County of Wilcox and State of Alabama, being feeble of body but of Sound mind thanks be unto God for the Same, Do make ordain and publish this to be my last will and testament in (?) and form following.

First: I consign my body to the dust and my Soul to God who gave it.

Second: I wish all my just debts to be paid.

Third: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife during her (lifetime?) the following Slaves, to wit: Toney, Little Silva, Rachel, (name cut off in margin), Fanney, Oran, and Bet. Also, Household & Kitchen furniture, One Horse, Two Mules, One Ox Waggon, 1 Yoke of Oxen, one third of the balance of the Stock, not otherwise Willed. (Corn?) and fodder for the first, together with meat, sugar, and coffee. One third of all plantation tools, Blacksmith tools and Iron and the following described land, to wit: the West half of South West quarter of Section nineteen together with the dwelling house, all out houses, Gin House, and Screw (?), also the West half of South East quarter of Section nineteen, and the East half of SW ¬ section nineteen, all Township Thirteen range Five East & at her death the s(ame?) to be divided as shall be herein after mentioned, and expressed.

Fourth: To my daughter, Eveline Watkins, I give and bequeath the Sum of fifty dollars, and all she has got from me previously.

Fifth: To my Daughter, Melvina Horton I give and bequeath 1 Gil(?) Toria? Jum, Pegg's Bill, and Lem, also the east half of the North East Quarter of Section Twenty five Township thirteen, Range four East, together with what I have previously given her.

Sixth: To my son, Obadiah Dumas, I give and bequeath the following Slaves, Allen, Major, big Silva and he c (margin cuts off this word) Caroline and the following land, to wit, The East half of the North East Quarter of Section Nineteen, Township Thirteen Range Five East, together with what I have previously given him.

Seventh: To my Son Lafayette Dumas I give and bequeath the following Slaves, Ben, Sam, Eliza, Mary, and Pat also 1 Bed and furniture, 2 cows and claves (sic), 2 Sows and Pigs, 1 Mule or Horse, and the following land, the East half of South West Quarter of Section Six Township thirteen, also the East half of North East Quarter of North West Quarter section Seven of Township thirteen all in Range five east, and at the death of my wife the following land, the W < of SE ¬ of Sec 19 also the East half of East < of SW ¬ of Section 19 Township 13 Range 5 East, to have and to hold the same during his natural life, and at his death to the Lawful heirs of his body in case of death without Lawful heirs, to be equally divided between Wade Hampton Dumas, Wincy Autery, and Mary Hawkins.

Eighth: To my son Wade Hampton Dumas I give and bequeath the following Slaves, Luke, William Haley and John, 1 Bed and furniture, 2 Cows & Calves, 2 Sows & Pigs, 1 Mule or Horse also the following land, to wit the W < of NE ¬ of Sec 19 Range 5 East the W < of SW ¬ of Section Six, The W < of NE ¬ of NW ¬ of Section Seven Township Thirteen Range five East. And at the death of my wife, the following land, the W < of SW ¬ and the West < of the E < of SW (?) all in Section Nineteen Township 13 Range 5 East, together with the dwelling house, out houses, Gin House and Screw(?) to have & to hold the same during his natural life and at his death to the lawful heirs of his body, in case of death without lawful heirs to be equally divided between Lafayette Dumas, Wincy Autery and Mary Hawkins.

Ninth: To my daughter Wincy who intermarried with Elijah Autery I give and bequeath the following Slaves, to wit, Harriet, Susan, Nell and Edward, 1 Mule or Horse also the following land (to wit) the East Half of North West ¬ of Section thirty (?) Township 13 Range 5 East, to have and to hold, unto her and the Lawful heirs of her body together with what I have previously given her.

Tenth: To my daughter Mary who intermarried with Thomas B. Hawkins, Jr. I give and bequeath the following Slaves Lucy, Sarah, Mingo Jim and Jenney 1 Mule or Horse and the following land to wit The W < of NW ¬ of Section 30 Township 13 of Range 5 East to have and to hold unto her and the lawful heirs of her body, with whatever I have given her.

12th : To Nancy one born in the family, I give and bequeath unto her the Sum of five dollars, as her share of my estate.

11th: To my Two Grandchildren Charity and Mary Dumas I give and bequeath the following Slaves, Peggy, Albert, and Adolphus and the following land (to wit) The W < of NE ¬ of Section 25 Township 13 of Range four East to have and to hold unto them and the lawful heirs of their body.

13th: It is my will and desire that at the death of my wife, all the property not otherwise willed, that I have given to (her?) together with the increase of the Slaves Shall be equally divided between my sons Obadiah, Lafayette and Wade Hampton and my daughters Melvina Horton, Wincy Autery, and Mary Hawkins and to the lawful heirs of their bodies.

14th: The balance of my property not specified in the foregoing is to be sold and after all my just debts and all necessary expenses to be equally divided between my children Specified in Item 13th.

I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my friend Henry Hatch as my Executor to this my last will and testament. Witness my hand & Seal this 7th day July 1849.
