About Barbara Church
Barbara Benefield Church departed this life Tuesday, July 17, 2001. Originally from Atlanta, Ga., she was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Kathryn Benefield. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 58 years, Colonel (U.S. Army Retired) Charlie R. Church; two daughters, Carol Holt and husband, Bill and Maynee Cayton and husband, Lauren; three grandchildren, Josh Holt, Molly Cayton and Griffin Cayton; two sisters, Kathryn Bartlett of Santa Monica, Calif. and Betty Goldthwait of St. Augustine, Fla.; and many loving friends and neighbors. She was well known for her knowledge and love of antiques. An antique dealer, she was the proud owner of the popular vintage clothing store Bygones located on W. Cary St., Richmond, Va. She was a member of Merchants Hope Episcopal Church and the Merchants Hope Garden Club. She was also a member of both the Fort Lee Officers' Wives Club and the Hopewell Woman's Club. She was a dedicated volunteer and a former manager of the Fort Lee Thrift Shop. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Hopewell, 312 E. Poythress St., Hopewell, Va.
