Adolf's great grandson suggests that Adolf Breuer's headstone suggesting he was born in Budapest, Hungary is incorrect. Through his research, he has found that Adolf was born in Gelnica (pronounced Gelnitza) in northern Hungary, an area incorporated into Czechoslovakia after WWI and which is now part of Slovakia.
Having travelled to the region, Adolf's great grandson found that the Breuers were German Jews who became members of the Evangelical (Lutheran) Church after being invited to set up a printing press business in Levoca (pronounced Levorcha), Hungary four hundred years ago. Alolf's great grandson found that the printing business is still in operation, and that a branch of the family settled in Gelnica.
Adolf's great grandson could find no record of the title 'Baron' and that it appeared that his great grandfather's name was actually Adolf Ludwig Brueur who emigrated to NZ as a young man to avoid conscription to the Hungarian army which could have been a period of some 15 years service.
