I was doing a bit of research on places for my 7th Great Grandfather Barthelemi Vinet dit Larente. It also popped up under the surname of Larante on google. I understand Vinet to be the surname and the dit Larente as 'known as' per this reference.

Do you concur? Interestingly, if you look at the map for the birthplace of Barthelemi Vinet did Larente(Larante), the village of St Pierre des Juillers southeast of La Rochelle in France you'll note a road titled Les Rentes...which caused me to wonder if this may be the origin of this 'dit' name!
