Biography of Basilio S. Santiago

Santiago, Basilio S.- Certified Accountant, Provincial Treasurer of Nueva Ecija, res. Cabanatuan, N.E. Born in San Miguel, Bulacan on June 26, 1885, son of Agapito Santiago and Maria de Silva, educated in both public and private schools, San Isidro N.E., and passed the Filipino Teacher examinations in 1904; appointed teacher in San Isidro Central School, 1905-1906; passed the Second Grade Civil Service (English) examination and was appointed an Internal Revenue Clerk and traveling deputy, 1907-1912; bookkeeper, 1912-1914; administrative deputy and later acting chief clerk and deputy, Office of the Provincial Treasurer of Nueva Ecija, 1914; passed the Civil Service examination for Assistant Provincial Treasurer and was appointed Chief Clerk and deputy successively in the provinces of La Union, Capiz, Leyte, Iloilo and Pangasinan; took also courses in surveying and mapping with the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he also studied accounting; was appointed City Treasurer of Baguio in 1920; promoted to the position of Provincial Treasurer of La Union that same year; transferred to Ilocos Sur in 1925; was awarded the Certificate to Public Accountant in 1927; appointed Provincial Treasurer of Bulacan, 1933; and transferred to Nueva Ecija in 1938. He belongs to no political party and is a Roman Catholic. He was president of the Plaridel Golf Club.
