About Batsheva Wolf (Halpern)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
According to Jacobi (p 173, 10.2, Vol2): her son claimed descent from: 1) the Heschel family, 2) the Heilprin family 3) from the Rabbi David Halevi Segal, the "Turei Zahav" (Taz). This claim is not fully satisfied by giving her Moses Heilprin, Parnas of Chelm and Dobrish Heilprin (Babad) as parents, because the TaZ is missing from the lineage if using these parents. Instead, Jacobi proposes that her parents were: R' Moses "Doberishes" (from the Heshel line) and Deborish (from the Heilprin and TaZ line), which would satisfy all three of the son's claims. This seems like a reasonable interpretation of the primary evidence. For those who want to check the facts presented by Jacobi: I believe he is referring to the Yichus Letter written by her son, R' Abraham Joshua Heschel "Ohev Israel", in the introduction to the book 'Geza Yishai' by Yekhutiel Silberman (Lvov 1856, reprinted Jerusalem 1967). If someone can get hold of the relevant passage and post it here, we'd be grateful. (12 OCT 2022).
