He enjoyed the crown of Persia only seven months: he was dethroned and slain by his nephew, the son of Arghun Khan who was compelled to attack his uncle and sovereign to preserve himnself from destruction ...In 1235, at the head of half a million of Keptchak Mongols, he conquered the east of Russia, destroying Riazan, Moscow, Vladimir and other towns. ref An Oriental Biographical Dictionary by Thomas William Beale

Baydu (also spelled Baidu (Байду)) (died 1295) was the sixth ruler of the Mongol empire's Ilkhanate division in Iran. He was the son of Taraqai, who was in turn the fifth son of Hulagu Khan. He succeeded his cousin Gaykhatu as khan of the Ilkhanate state in 1295.

Gaykhatu had been killed by a group of conspirators led by Taghachar, a commander in the Mongol army, who then placed Baydu in power. Baydu was considered easygoing and controllable, and under him, the Ilkhanate was divided among the co-conspirators.

Baydu had strong sympathies to Christianity, but was required to act outwardly as a Muslim. According to Saunders in Mongol Conquests, Baydu allowed churches on his ordo and wore a cross around his neck. He was urged by his followers to rid himself of Ghazan, the son of Arghun Khan, but refused out of affection.

However, his followers gradually deserted him, in part because of the intrigues of Emir Nauruz. Ghazan made war on Baydu, marching with a Muslim army from Khorasan. Baydu attempted to escape and flee from Azerbaijan to Georgia, but was taken prisoner near Nakhichevan after being defeated in battle.

After only five months in power he was taken to Tabriz and executed on the 5 October 1295, ending the civil war with his successor Mahmud Ghazan.

=====

Gayḵātū’s greatest blunder was to insult Bāydū while drunk and then, out of remorse, to seek to placate him, contrary to the advice of amirs who urged him to destroy his cousin (Tārīḵ-e Waṣṣāf, pp. 275-76; continuator of Bar Hebraeus, pp. 494-95). Bāydū seized his opportunity to revolt in the winter of 694 /1294-95, killing Gayḵātū’s governor of Baghdad. Taḡāčār was sent against him, but went over to the enemy. Instead of taking refuge in his power-base in Rūm, the Il-khan made the mistake of fleeing to Ahar and Pīlsovār, where he was seized by supporters of Bāydū whom he had imprisoned in Tabrīz but who had been released on Taḡāčār’s orders. Gayḵātū was put to death on 6 Jomādā I 694/24 March 1295, apparently without Bāydū’s knowledge or approval. http://www.iranicaonline.org/articles/gaykatu-khan-

About بایدوخان Borigin Dynasty (Persian)
