Brief overview:

Bekkie (55), who lived with her son, Jacques Cilliers (35) on his cucumber farm outside Brits, was stabbed to death on Wednesday 30th July 2008. The perpetrator arrested demanded money from Bekkie Cilliers, and Jacques Cilliers' mother-in-law Juliana Vorster (55).

Insp. Police spokesman Brian Dlamini said police were looking for a 42-year-old farm worker who had been working on the farm for about two years. According to Dlamini, R160 was taken from the house.

The two women were making lunch when a man with a jersey over his head and a knife in his hand entered the kitchen. Vorster recognised his voice as that of one of the farm workers. "When I called him by his name, he took the jersey off his head and said, 'Grandma, I'm looking for money.' "I gave him everything in my wallet." The worker first took the women to the study, where he searched for money in drawers.

The attacker then forced them into the bedroom and ordered them to lie down on the bed. He stabbed the women, Vorster was stabbed seven times in her hands, buttocks, head and neck. The attacker fled before Mr. Cilliers' wife, Janie, who had taken her children to school, arrived. Dlamini said Cilliers died at the scene. Charges of murder, attempted murder and house robbery are being investigated.
