About Benjamin James Dyer

Benjamin James Dyer was a Bricklayers Labourer born 1881 in Humberstone, Leicestershire probably working for his father who ran a building business. He married Nellie (Ellen) Garibaldi the Sept qtr 1908 in Basford, Nottingham. They had two children Benjamin James in December qtr b1908 and Doris Sept qtr b1910.

In 1911 they were living at 1 Cromwell Street, Carlton and by 1915 Ben had joined up for the hostilities in WW1 with the 17th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters Regiment as Private 22261 but unfortunately was killed in action on 8th November 1917 in Belgium. He is buried at the Tyne Cot cemetery in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A. Here are some of the obituaries that appeared in the local papers -
