Benjamin was born at Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts, on 2 February 1728. He was the son of Stephen Gifford and Mary (Unknown). He married Mary Pettis at Tiverton, Newport, RI, on 30 July 1749. He died at Westport, Bristol, MA, before 30 April 1817.
