About Benjamin Hensley

Most researchers would agree that Benjamin was the son of Henry Hensley and Barbara Angel as records and family connections point him to these parents. Benjamin was born about 1793 on his parents' 200 acre homestead located at the Caney River settlement of Bald Creek in now Yancey Co., NC. He met Louisa while living in the area and they married about 1809 in Buncombe Co., NC. No marriage record has been found. The marriage estimation is based on the 1810 Buncombe Co., NC Census in which he is noted as head of household with wife both in the 16-25 age group with one son 0-9 age group. He was enumerated between Edward Briggs and Henry Hensley (his brother).

July 1824: Grant 10467, #55 for 12 1/2 cents per acre. Benjamin Hensley entered 62 acres on Greer's Fork of Indian Creek at the foot of the mountain in Washington Co. (now Stamp Ridge, Flag Pond, Unicoi) TN. Surveyed on August 3, 1824 and approved and granted on February 10, 1825. NOTE: according to land and census records, his neighbors were Holland Higgins, David Greer, Hugh Bell, Hugh Harris Jr. and Hugh Harris Sr.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 11 2021, 21:43:42 UTC
