Benjamin V McCarthy II

Some anomalies arise as to BVM II's birthdate. Someone had listed 1863 previously. The records at St. Vincents say 11/30/64.

When I think of Papa I always recall him with a pipe, in the smoking room on the second floor of 70 E. Penn Street.

The family was recorded living at 6131 Baynton Street (since "urban renewed", ugh) This was located about 3 blocks from St. Vincent's Parish, the focal point of the family for church, school and social life.

The family probably moved to Penn Street (about 5 blocks from St. Vincent's in the other direction) in the early to mid- 20's. The house is still there, with wooden porch replaced by concrete, and not quite so grand as I thought it as a child.

The backyard, Mama's domain for roses and peonies, was cut in half around 1960 when what had been vacant lot incorporated into the yard was the site of a new school, built on the adjacent street.

Papa, Mama and at least Jane, Edith and Esther are buried at Calvary Cemetery, sect5/range14/lot8,Matson Ford Road Gate, West Conshohocken.
