"FUNERAL FOR OLD RESIDENT

BERGITTE LURA HAD LIVED IN COMMUNITY FOR OVER HALF CENTURY

Following is the obituary of Bergitte Lura, an old resident of the community, whose funeral was held last Friday.

Bergitte, youngest daughter of Haaver and Bertha Lura, was born at Lura, near Stavanger, Norway, on October 19, 1866, and passed away on March 20, 1934, at the age of 67 years and five months.

When she was 14 years of age, she, with her widowed mother, came to this county to the home of her sister, Mrs. John Evenson. She was confirmed shortly after by Rev. Solberg in the Salem church. She spent most of her life in the vicinity of Roland, with the exception of several years spent at Marshalltown and Minneapolis.

She had suffered from a hip ailment for the last 15 years, a disease which had gradually become worse, making it difficult for her to get about. She suffered a slight stroke a year and a half ago, and had been in poor health since, although apparently she was feeling well Tuesday afternoon when she suffered another stoke which caused her death just before midnight.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two sisters, Mrs. John Evenson of Roland, with whom she had made her home, and Mrs. M. Malmin of McCallsburg, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. H. H. Lura of Roland, besides 26 nieces and nephews and other relatives.

The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, a brief service in the home at 1:30, and at 2:30 in the Salem church, with Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd sang two numbers, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Den Store Hvide Flok." Rev. Holen spoke in the English language and also made a few remarks in the Norwegian language. The body was laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, namely, Harry, Benford and Orville Evenson and Victor Lura, and Gerhard Malmin.

Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Cory, Mr. and Mrs. Orville L. Evenson, and Mrs. Carl Johnson of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. George Legvold of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Evenson and Peter Skogerboe of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lura of Gilbert; Mrs. M. Malmin, Gerhard Malmin, Mrs. O. V. Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Egenes, Ole Hougen, Maurice Hougen and Hazel Hougen, Mr. and Mrs. George Vallem, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lura, Mrs. Amos Hanson, of McCallsburg, Miss Bertha Lura of Ames, and Miss Theresa Evenson of Council Bluffs."
