Grandpa Winer: !!!!!! Work in Progress !!!!!!

More info: While on vacation (4/12/97) with Mom and Dad at Walt Disney World, Mom bought Grandpa a genealogy paper describing the name "WINER". The following is what was written on the paper:

Family Name History WINER

The German surname WINER is toponymic in origin, denoting "one who came from Wien (Vienna)", the name of the Austrian capital and also of various smaller places in Austria and Germany. The place name Vienna is originally recorded in the Latin form "Vindobona", and its believed to be of unknown Celtic origin. Alternatively, Winer is of the patronymic origin, that is, derived from the first name of the father of the initial bearer. In this case, the name denotes "son of Winer", an acient personal name composed of the Old High German words "wini" meaning "friend" and "heri" meaning "army". In some instances, Winer is a derivative of the Middle High German "wagener", indicating "one who made and sold carts and wagons". Some scholars claim that this surname is derived from the Middle High German "wein" meaning "wine", denoting "one who made and sold wine". Variants of this surname include Wiener, Weiner, Weyner and Wayner. One of the earliest records of this surname or a variant dates back to 1348 whenone Hans der Wienare is recorded in Daugendorf near Reidlingen. In 1352 one Hans Wiener was included in the list of persons accused of the murder of Joh. Wundlock, bishop of Konstanz (Constance). Herman Wagner from Jena is listed in 1403 and later in the same year he appears as Hermann Wayner, Weyner and Weiner. One F. Weiner is recorded as residing in Gorlitz in 1660.
