H. Unruh, p. 302). In the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Chortitza #49. In 1806 his family consisted of four males and three females. At that time he owned the farm established by his father-in-law Martin Penner who arrived in Chortitza in 1795. (Rempel, p10). One record says he was born 14 Mar. Another record says he was born 29 May 1769. The diary of Jacob Niebuhr (b. 4 May 1862) says he was born 14 May 1769, which was likely his o. s. birth date. One source says he died 5 Aug. He served as 4th Aeltester of the Chortitza Mennonite Church from 1806 to 1809. BHU, p. 347, incorrectly states that he immigrated to the Molotschna Colony in 1804 and that he was a Prediger and Aeltester in 1810.Mennonite Migration to Russia, 1788-1828, page 10, page 121 Immigration Source: Die niederlandisch-niederdeutschen Hintergrunde der mennonitischen Ostwanderungen im 16., 18. und 19.
