Old-Timer Dies
One of Calgary's oldest citizens, Mrs. Bessie Ella Lumley, 102, of 2712 32nd Ave. S.W., died at her home Monday.
Born in Danville, Que., Sept. 9, 1857, she lived in Ottawa from about 1900 to 1925. On her husband's death that year she came to Calgary to live with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Green, and has resided here since.
When she marked her 100th birthday in 1957, Mrs. Lumley received messages of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and Ellen Fairclough, minister of citizenship and immigration.
She was a member of Central United Church and was presented with a life membership in the church two years ago.
Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Lumley is survived by two grandsons, Kent Green of Riverside, Calif., and Murray Green, of Toronto, Ont., and six great grandchildren. Another daughter, Geraldine, died four years ago.
