About Beth Love

1919 - 2013 After a loving 94-year sojourn, Beth Sheffield Love peacefully moved on to her next adventure on November 3, 2013. She leaves behind a large and growing posterity and the rare legacy of joyful children who love each other. Born May 15, 1919 to James Francis and Dagmar Eugenia Olsen Sheffield in Brigham City, UT, she later attended South High and the University of Utah. She met her husband, Jay Leonard Love, on a blind date, waited for him to return from overseas military service during WWII, then married him six weeks later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 17, 1945. Jay and Beth were parents to three daughters and two sons, with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A faithful member of the LDS Church, Beth served a mission in Texas and in callings throughout her life; she was still teaching Primary in her 80s. She was a master quilter, a joyful dancer, a lover of all things chocolate and yet remained physically fit her whole life, running and winning her first 10K in her 60s, and playing tennis well into her 80s. At age 82, Beth was selected to run the 2002 Olympic torch through Brigham City. She danced to the music of life, enduring trials with grace and sharing her joys as widely as possible. We rejoice in the grand reunion with her husband, parents and siblings Dorthea, Carl, Byron, Lucile and Eunice who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Beth Ann (Gordon) Hammer, Jim Love, Claudia Murphy, Scott (Deb) Love, and Laura (Mark) Fotheringham, 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at Sunrise of Sandy for making Beth's last 3 years comfortable and happy. Viewings will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., SLC, on Thursday Nov. 7 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday Nov. 8 from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to an 11:00am funeral. Online condolences welcomed at www.larkincares.com In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS church missionary or perpetual education funds or to Primary Children's Hospital. .Published in Salt Lake Tribune from Nov. 6 to Nov. 7, 2013
