Betsey Hanes

At her home southeast of Argos, Sunday, April 15, 1888, Mrs. Betsey Hanes, aged 77 years, 10 mo, and 7 days. Her death was caused by hemorrhage of the lungs. The deceased was born near Elizabeth, NY [her family lived at Elizabethtown Canada at the time], came to Indiana with her husband in 1853, where she has since resided: She survived her husband 20 years; was the mother of 9 children, four of whom are still living, with nineteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren, had many friends to mourn their loss. She was a loving mother and a faithful Christian. She united with the German Baptist Church in 1878. Her funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church at Argos by the Rev. H. Deardorff, and the remains interred at the Argos Cemetery, Tuesday, April 17th. Farewell, bright soul, a short farewell, Till we shall meet again, above In the sweet groves where pleasures dwell, And trees of life bear fruits of love.

Sweet soul, we leave thee to thy rest, Enjoy thy Jesus and thy God, Till we, from hands of clay released, Spring out and climb the shining road.
