Biography
Betty Barnard was born at Amesbury, Massachusetts on January 23, 1733, daughter of Jonathan and Tabitha (Colby) Barnard.[1] [2] [3] She married Orlando Sargent on January 9, 1755, as his second wife. Orlando was born at Amesbury on April 21, 1728, son of Moses and Sarah (Bagley) Sargent. [1] [4] [3] She passed away on 3 Nov 1808 in Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts, USA[5]
In her father Capt. Jonathan Barnard's will, written in April, 1769, he left bequests to his three daughters, including Bettey Sargent, among others. [6]
Her mother, widow Tabitha Barnard died at Amesbury on May 19, 1787. [1] Her will was written on April 5, 178?5/6 and in it she names among her heirs, daughter Betty, wife of Orlando Sargent, and appointed her two daughters Betty Sargent and Ann Titcomb as executors. [7]
On July 5, 1791, her brother Timothy Barnard petitioned the court as the executor's of Tabitha's estate, being Oliver Titcomb and wife Anne, and Orlando Sargent and wife Bettey, had not acted on the settlement in four years. Also submitting a like petition and complaint were Cotton Kimball and wife Rhoda, and Elizabeth and Tabitha Sargent, both singlewomen, grandchildren of Tabitha Barnard, deceased (children of Rhoda (Barnard) Sargent). [7]
Orlando died at Amesbury on April 3, 1803. [1] [3] He is buried in the Lower Corner Cemetery, Merrimac, Massachusetts.
He wrote his will on March 20, 1801. In it he left bequests to:[8]
