"Jo" Mulligan
Betty Joan "Jo" Mulligan, 72, of Belpre passed away May 10, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1933, in Jackson County, W.Va., a daughter of the late David Lee and Neda Divers Carmichael.
"Jo" graduated from Belpre High School, class of 1951, and had worked in the banking industry for many years, specializing in customer service. She had worked at Wood County Bank, Williamstown Bank and Peoples Bank in the Marietta and Belpre offices and retired in 1996. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, supporting her family by never missing one of their ballgames. She was active in several bridge clubs and enjoyed reading. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 541 of Belpre for 50 years and St. Marks United Methodist Church, where she had served as financial secretary for many years.
"Jo" is survived by her husband of 52 years, William Mulligan Jr.; three sons, Roger Mulligan of Belpre, Steven Mulligan and his wife, Debbie, of Ripley and David Mulligan of Denver, N.C.; one daughter, Ellen Ellis and her husband, Drew, of Webster, S.D.; five grandchildren, Jessica Walkup, Justine Walker, Amber Rhodes, Morgan Ellis and Derek Ellis; two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn Walkup and Jaedon Walker; three brothers, David Carmichael of Ravenswood, Charles Carmichael of Belpre and Warren Carmichael of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sisters, Juanita Bruestle and Mary Britton, both of Vienna; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, "Jo" was preceded in death by two brothers, Denver and Robert Carmichael; and one sister, Omi Schiefer.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with the Rev. David Hubbard officiating. Burial will be at Rockland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m., and prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
