Betty Lomie Shindler

Betty Shindler, 92, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Edgewater Retirement Community in West Des Moines. A graveside service will be held 12:00 Noon, Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Betty was born March 29, 1919 in Des Moines. On August 25, 1940 she married Isadore Shindler, and they spent 48 years together. Betty was a member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and her greatest loves were her family and animals.

Survivors include her children: Elliott (Mary Lou) Shindler of Virginia, Andrea (Robert) Duitch of Des Moines, Gary (Myra) Shindler of Arizona; grandchildren: Matthew, Philip, Benjamin, Jeff, Marni, Beth; three great grandchildren; and her sister in law, Ida Levich. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Isadore; brother Marvin (Marian) Bookey; in-laws, Tillie (Milt) Grossman and Nate Levich.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tifereth Israel Synagogue, the Animal Rescue League, or the Autism Society of Iowa.
