About Bob Schneeberg

Robert G. "Bob" Schneeberg of Overland Park, KS. died Monday, July 21, 2008, at his home. Bob was born January 14, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA. After serving in the U.S. Army, Bob attended The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Upon graduating, Bob worked as a free lance artist in the Philadelphia, New York City area. Bob met his future wife, Ann, on a date arranged by a fellow art student. Ann was also a student at the University. She and Bob were married at the home of Ann's parents on June 26, 1957. Fifty one years of shared interests and Ann's wonderful cooking followed. The Hallmark company discovered Bob in 1954 and he began a long and productive career with the company. For 19 years Bob worked for Hallmark from his studio in Levittown, PA. In 1976, Bob and his family moved to Overland Park. With his completely unique style, Bob created greeting cards, puzzles, calendars, and countless other products for Hallmark. As popular as that work was, Bob was most well known for his beautiful and intricate assemblages, created from countless different materials, ranging from items picked up from his east coast beach searches, to tiny machine parts from huge printing presses. Bob's assemblages grace many private homes and public places such as Children's Mercy Hospital, Yellow Freight of Kansas City, The Lawrence Journal World, Halls Crown Center and Halls on the Plaza. At one point, the coffee shop located in the Crown Center Hotel lobby was decorated exclusively with Bob's work. After his retirement in 1987, Bob continued producing art from his basement studio. His paintings were often influenced by his other art form, his gorgeous gardens. Bob's yard was filled with flower gardens and brick paths that he designed and built. His gardens resembled his assemblages -- large and small areas all flowing together into one beautiful creation. Bob's plants continue to grow in a multitude of friends and neighbors gardens as he was constantly sharing his passion. When Bob wasn't painting or gardening, he enjoyed following his favorite sports teams and discussing politics. Bob's knowledge of current events always made for interesting and challenging discussions. Bob will certainly be on our minds as this years presidential election plays out. Bob is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter, Liz and her partner Leslie, grandchildren Dash and Zoey. Also a brother, Norman and sister-in-law, Helen of Philadelphia. Two nieces, Susan Bronstein of San Francisco and Karen Goodheart of New York. His dog and companion, Sugr, will miss their hours together in the garden.
