Parents of Bryngel were Henrik Brynjulfsen Solum, born 25 March 1809 in Solum Utstu, Soknedal, Midtre Gauldal, Sor- Trondelag, Norway. Henrik married Kari Johnsdtr. Lien, born 1811 in Soknedal, Midtre Gauldal, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. Kari died 15 July 1852 in Solumsgrind, Solum, Soknedal, Midtre Gauldal, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. Henrik died 21 November 1872 in Solumsgrind, Solum, Soknedal, Midtre Gauldal, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. Kari and Henrik are buried in the Soknedal Kirkegard (Cemetery) in Midtre Gauldal, Sor-Trondelag, Norway.

Bryngel married Ingeborg Johnsdtr. Solum on the 28 February 1875 in Soknedal Kirke (Church), Midtre Gauldal, Sor-Trondelag, Norway.

The Lusitania was a British luxury liner. Lusitania departed for her maiden voyage on 7 September 1907 from Liverpool, England arriving in New York City on 13 September 1907.

The Lusitania last departed Pier 54 in New York with 1,959 on board on 1 May 1915. Friday, 7 May 1915 the Lusitania was torpedoed by German U-Boat U-20. Of the 1,959 on board (1,198 died and 761 survivors.

The Germany Embassy in Washington had issued a warning on 22 April 1915, but the Captain Turner tried to calm the passengers by explaining that the ship's speed made her safe from attach by submarines. He did survive.

The Lusitania wreck lies approximately 7 miles off the Old Head of Kinsale Lighthouse in 450 feet of water.

Bryngel and Ingeborg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the 28 February 1925 at their home at 415 South Main Street, Canton, South Dakota. The Rev. Olsen gave an appropriate address, touching upon the event of fifty years ago. They were pioneer's in the Canton, Lincoln County, South Dakota. One great grandson, Norman is still farming and living on the homestead land.

After an illness of two months, Mr. Solem died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Vieding. His wife and four children preceded him in death. He was survived by four children: Mrs. Vieding of Canton, South Dakota; Carl and Alfred Solem of the Romsdal community in South Dakota; and another daughter, Josephine Caroline Solem Spencer who lives in Illinois.
