Burgess Harrelson was born in 1718 in Hanover County, Virginia Colony, the son of Peter Harellson and Mary Chambers . He was the brother of Burgess Harellson and Paul Harrelson. Burgess was the father of Drucilla Harrellson Byars. He died after 9 May 1772, the date his will was written, in Orange County, North Carolina Province. No date is given in the records of Orange County stating when the will was proved.
Burgess was named in the will of his father, Peter Harrelson, dated 20 January 1732. Also named were his mother Mary, brothers Paul, John and Nathaniel and sisters Elizabeth, Agnes and Sarah.[1][2]
Burgess married Elizabeth Gaines about 1740 in Virginia.[citation needed]
Burgess was named executor of the will of his brother, John Harrelson, dated 9 August 1764 and entered for probate 21 March 1765 in Halifax County, Virginia.[3]
Burgess was living in Orange County, North Carolina by November 1764 when he was appointed a member of a jury to lay out a road and appointed overseer of that part of the road leading to the Granville line.[4]

Burgess wrote his will dated 9 May 1772 in Orange County, North Carolina; no date is entered for probate of the will. Named in his will are:
