About CHE BEE bt Abdullah or OPAH BEE (formerly NG CHEW NI) (1895-1980)
We call her Opah, or grandmother in Malay. She was a stunningly beautiful Chinese girl who, at 19, married my Australian grandfather John William Henry Fenner (Jack Fenner), a highly successful tin miner in Malaya. Jack died in 1926, leaving Opah and 5 Eurasian children. Opah was resourceful, clever, enterprising and optimistic. She had a tumultuous life but never gave up. She was very meticulous about health, appearance and cleanliness. She had a heart of gold and was always giving to her family and even strangers. She could not bear to see people living in poverty.
