About (CSA), William Lewis Sams
Correspondence from J. Daniel Peardon to J. Mark Lawless. See 1870 census and 1870 Mortality Schedule in William Lewis Sams' media.
Mark, We list William Lewis Sams' death as 16 May 1863 at Bakers Creek,MS(during Civil War). I was prompted by someones posting to check out the 1870 census mortality schedule. Although ancestry.com lists the schedule in Paulding County, the record clearly reads Pickens. In the two attached records, you can see the residence listed as household #210. In the actual census, they are living beside Margaret's niece, Louisa Biddy Brooks(1/2 niece, daughter of Meshach McFarland Biddy). I believe this is William Lewis Sams and the info given to us concerning his death during the war is incorrect. I do not remember where the date came from as I have no documentation in my notes to back it up. We did find him enlisting in the war but no actual documentation on his death.
