About Callibut Walpole, Esquire, twin
Calibut Walpole of Houghton, second son and heir of John Walpole was baptized 14 March 1561 and survived his only brother, Edward, less than nine years. He died and was buried at Houghton 4 May 1646. He married 14 October 1591, Elizbeth, eldest daughter and coheir of Edmund Bacon, Esq. of Hessett, Suffolk, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Cornwallis. She was buried at Houghton 1 Feb 1624. Their six children were: Robert Walpole,Esq. of Houghton; John Walpole of South Creake and Bromesthorpe; Calibut Walpole, died a bachelor; Bacon Walpole; Elizabeth Walpole, married Thomas Clifton, Esq. of Toftres, norfolk; Anne Walpole, married 1st Thomas Pettus of Lincoln's Inn and of Rackheath, norfolk, and 2nd to Henry Hungate, knight, of East Bradenham, Norfolk. The Will of Calibut Walpole was dated 25 July 11 Charles I, 1636, proved 9 June 1646. The heavy fine and the expense inseperable from obtaining Edward's pardon must have seriously taxed Calibut's resources, though he married an heiress; and the estate must have been encumbered when he entered into possession. Edward Walpole, son and heir, baptized 28 Janurary 1559, Matriculated Pensioner of Peterhouse, Cambridge, 26 may 1576, entered English College in Rome, 1590, received Tonsure and four minor orders in Lent, 1592, ordained sub-deacon on Holy Saturday, Deacon on Easter Monday (in the Church of St. John Lateran), and Priest on Ascension Day, 1592, in the chapel of the English College in Rome, entered the Jesuit Noviciate at Tournay 1 July 1593, conveyed certain of his estate to his brother Calibut Walpole, 18 Sept 1588, and in 1612-1613 executed a deed of renunciation of all claim to his estates in favor of the said Calibut Walpole. Said to have been converted by his cousin, henry Walpole, who was executed at York, Monday, 17 April, 1595; on the English mission forty years; died 3 nov 1637, aged 77, in London. He was indicted for treasonable pracices at Rome 1 April 1593, received a pardon of all High Treasons, granted to Calibut Walpole, by letters Patent of King James I., Test. 4 April, second of his reign, 1605
