Transferred from Captain William C. Howard's Calvary Company, NC Local Defense Troops May 7, 1862 and mustered in as a Private in the Third North Carolina Carlvary, Co H. Appt'd 2nd Lieut. 12/10/62 & promoted to 1st Lt, April 10, 1864. Served as Company Commander after Dec, 1863 through Dec, 1864 with the rank of 1st Lt. Inspection report dated Feb 28,1865 reports him as Captain. Fought at Kinston, New Bern and in Virginia. Was paroled in Virginia on April 25, 1865.

Cause of death was Myocarditis.
