About Capt. Enos Peck
Enos was born in 1752 in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was the son of Peter Peck and Sarah Reynolds.[1][2]
He married first Anna Marsh.[1][2]
There is a grave memorial, with no gravestone, in Oran Community Church Cemetery for Anna Marsh Peck, born 1755 in New Haven, Vermont, died 1812 in Pompey, New York, daughter of Elihu Marsh Jr. and Martha Walters.
About 1789 he moved from New Milford, Connecticut to New Haven, Vermont.[1]
In 1790 he was living in New Haven, Addison, Vermont.[3]
He had 10 children, the first seven born in New Haven, Vermont and the last three born in Pompey, New York.[4]
Capt Peck was an early settler in the town of Pompey, arriving about 1793 and settling on lot 22.[5][1]
On 4 Sep 1797 Enos Peck of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 200 acres in lot 12 in the town of Pompey to Noah Palmer of the town of Cazenovia, Herkimer County, New York for $750.[6]
On 12 Mar 1798 Ebenezer Clark of Washington County sold 600 acres as lot 23 in the town of Pompey, part of the Military Tract, to Enos Peck of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County for 525 pounds.[7][8] Lot 23 is in the northeast corner of the town of Pompey.
He married second Lavina Wilcox.[1][2]
On 30 May 1798 Enos Peck and Lavina Peck of Onondaga County, New York sold 197 acres in lot number 23 to Ebenezer Wright for 153 pounds, two shillings, six pence.[9]
On 21 Jan 1799 Enos Peck of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 10 acres being half of lot 12 in the town of Pompey to Eber Farnham also of Pompey for $45.[10]
In 1799 he paid taxes in Pompey, Onondaga, New York for real estate valued at $920 and personal estate of $152. An Elihu Peck also paid tax.[11]
Enos Peck was present at the first court of Onondaga County in Jun 1799.[12][13]
In 1800 he was living in Pompey, Onondaga, New York.[14] The household of Enar Peck included 3 males under age 10, 1 male age 10 to 15, 1 male over age 45, 3 females under age 10, 1 female age 10 to 15 and 1 female over age 45. In 1800, 1801, 1802, and 1803 he paid taxes in Pompey, Onondaga, New York; an Elihu Peck also paid tax. [15] His real estate and personal estate values, respectively were: 1800: $940 $126, 1801: $940 $155, 1802: $680 $142, 1803: $645 $149.
On 1 May 1801 Enos Peck of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 4 acres in lot 23 in the town of Pompey to Ebenzer Wright also of Pompey for $7.[16]
On 28 Sep 1805 Enos Peck and Levina Peck his wife both of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 130 acres in the northeast corner of lot 23 in the town of Pompey to Daniel Thomas of Pompey for $325.[17]
On 1 Oct 1805 Enos Peck and Lavina Peck his wife of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 169 acres, some bordering a limestone creek, in lot 23 in the town of Pompey to John Lee of the town of Paris, Oneida County, New York for $3442.50.[18]
On 1 Oct 1805 Enos Peck and Lavina Peck his wife of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 100 acres in lot 23 in the town of Pompey to Samuel Messinger Jr also of Pompey for $1475.[19]
On 18 Oct 1805 Rubin Sheldon and Sarah his wife of the town of Cato, Cayuga County, New York sold 100 acres lot 84 in the town of Cato to Enos Peck of the town of Pompey for $800.[20]
On 28 Nov 1805 Enos Peck and Lavina his wife of the town of Pompey, Onondaga County, New York sold 43 acres in lot 23 in Pompey to John White of Blumford, Hampshire, Massachusetts for $600.[21]
He moved to the town of Cato, Cayuga County, about 1806.[8]
On 19 Jan 1810 Elihu Peck and Ruana his wife of the town of Camillus, Onondaga County, New York sold 121 acres in lot 41 in the Town of Camillus to Enos Peck Senior also of Camillus for $549.[22]
In 1810 he was living in Camillus, Onondaga, New York,[23] The household of Enos Peck included 1 male under age 10, 3 males age 16 to 25, 1 male over age 45, 2 females age 10 to 15 and 1 female age 26 to 44. Elihu Peck lived next door.
On 20 August 1810 Enos Peck of the town of Camillus, Onondaga County, New York sold, via quit claim deed, land in lot 23 in the town of Pompey to John Lee of Pompey for $4.[24] The land included all Enos' land in lot 23 not previously deeded to others
Although local histories state that he moved to the town of Camillus about 1815, he lived there earlier.[25][26]
In 1820 he was living in Camillus, Onondaga, New York.[27] The household of Enos Peck included 2 males under 10, 1 male age 16 to 25, 1 male age 26 to 44, 1 male over age 45, 2 females under age 10, 1 female age 16 to 25 and 1 female over age 45. Two persons were engaged in agriculture. Isaac Peck lived next door.
He lived in the town of Van Buren, which was formed from the town of Camillus in 1829.
He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, with a rank of Captain.[2]
He died 23 May 1835 in Camillus, New York.[1][2]
He is buried in Oran Community Church Cemetery, Pompey, Onondaga County, New York.[2]
