About Capt. John Sherman, Esq.

He was a physician in Springfield, MA where he had gone on invitation to become the grammer teacher, but resigned that position and became a physician. He was especially active in the early history of Brimfield, MA, bringing to the town, as the records disclose, his family of seven sons and a daughter, the eldest son, Bezaleel, being a proprietor of an original distribution of lands. The abilities of the ex-schoolmaster seem to have been utilized in th enew town, as Capt. John Sherman was, for a long time, "proprietor clerk", and was town clerk of Brimfield from 1632 to 1761. He was married to Agibail (Wood) Stone, Nov 9th. 1703.".
