Biography
Leicester Grosvenor, Esq., took part in the founding of Pomfret in the Colony of Connecticut, after his father, John Grosvenor, invested in the land purchased in 1686 from the natives by Major James Fitch (the Mashmuket or Mashamoquet Purchase).[1][2] He was elected annually to the Board of Selectmen for 20 years. He was also directly involved in establishing the First Church at Pomfret. He became an ensign in the military company stationed at Pomfret.[3]
Leicester was born in about 1675 in Roxbury, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of John Grosvenor, who was born in England and who died in Roxbury, Suffolk County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, on 27 Sep 1691. Leicester's mother was Esther (or Hester) Clarke, daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth Clarke of Waterbury and, later, of Roxbury. She was born ca.1651, probably in Waterford, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.[4]
Leicester married Mary Hubbard in Woodstock, Connecticut Colony, on 16 Jan 1712.[5]

Mary (Hubbard) Grosvenor, wife of Lieutenant Leicester Grosvenor, died on 14 or 24 May 1724, in Pomfret in Connecticut Colony, at the age of 37.[13][14]
Leicester, now Captatin Leicester Grosvenor, married Rebecca Waldo in Pomfret, Connecticut Colony, on 12 Feb 1729.[15] Rebecca was born in Chelmsford, Province of Massachusetts Bay, on 5 Feb 1693/4.[16]
Leicester and Rebecca had two children:
Leicester Grosvenor, Jr. (b. 4 Oct 1729)[17]
Rebecca Grosvenor (b. 30 Nov 1732)[18]
Rebecca (Waldo) Grosvenor, wife of Captain Leicester Grosvenor, died in Pomfret on 21 May 1753, "in the 61'st year of her age."[19][20]
Leicester Grosvenor, Esq., died 8 Sep 1759, in Pomfret.[21][22] He was buried in the South Cemetery in Pomfret.[23]
