Death of Thos. W. Glisan. "Thomas Washington Glisan died Thursday evening, Feb.16, at the family residence on Eagle Street after an illness of many years. Mr. Glisan was born in Liberty, Maryland, April 26, 1821, [son of Samuel and Eliza Pool Glisan] and when 20 years of age came to Fredonia, and attended the old Academy from which he was afterwards graduated with honors [2 terms in 1845]. For a few years he taught in the surrounding district schools and studied law. He was admitted to the bar at Schoharie, N.Y., and in partnership with his brother-in-law, George Barker, conducted a law business, also dealing in real estate.
In 1847 he married Miss Katherine D. Pond of Schoharie, N.Y., who died in the spring of l853, leaving one daughter, Jessie, who afterwards became the wife of Lansing Tiffany and lived in Jacksonville, Ill. Mrs. Tiffany died leaving one daughter, Katherine Glisan Tiffany Wiley, Mr. Glisan's only living grand-child.
In July, 1854, he married Miss Lucy Frisbee who died Dec. 27, 1883. Of this marriage four children were born, one [George E.] dying in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Sarah Glisan Fenneman of Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. Jennie Cushing and Henry Frisbee Glisan of Fredonia [all are buried in Forest Hill].
Mr. Glisan enlisted in the army at the beginning of the Civil war, responding to Lincoln's first call and organized Co. K of the Ninth Regiment N.Y. Cavalry of which he was captain. At the close of the war he returned to the practice of law and was elected justice of the peace, an office he held as long as health permitted.
Mr. Glisan was the last of his family of four brothers and three sisters. Two of his sisters, Mrs. George [Achsah E.] Barker and Mrs. William [Eliza M.] Barden as well as himself having been closely identified with Fredonia interests for more than forty years.
The funeral was held with Masonic and Episcopal services from his late home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and was attended by Forest Lodge, F&AM, besides many friends."
