Wounded badly, disabled, 7/18/1861 at Blackburn's Ford during Battle of 1st Bull Run.

The 17th Infantry Regiment was organized at Manassas Junction, Virginia, in June, 1861, using the 6th Battalion Virginia Infantry as its nucleus. Men of this unit were recruited in the counties of Warren, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Fauquier.
