About Capt. Charles Henry Dimmock, CSA
Confederate engineer officer. Served on the staffs of Gen. Robert Hoke, Gen. Henry Wise, Gen. William Mahone, and the headquarters of the Army of Northern Virginia. Worked on the Petersburg defenses, Norfolk, Craney Island, and Roanoke Island.
Died of stomach cancer.
The Charles H. Dimmock papers in the special collections database at the College of William and Mary include a sketch of the life of Charles H. Dimmock; a manuscript volume containing a journal of a voyage from Norfolk to Madeira and farm journal of "Shabby Hall," Gloucester County, Va.; and papers concerning the service of Charles Henry Dimmock in the engineer's corps in the Confederate Army, some of which include work at Yorktown, Va. and having slaves help build ramparts at Petersburg, Va.
