"Captain Edmond 3 Richards (James 2, Samuel 1) b. Norwalk May 29, 1756; d. E. Bloomfield N.Y. Sept. 3, 1843; buried Bristol N.Y. Married Darien Oct 28 1776, Ruth Waring, his cousing, b. abt. 1758, d. after Oct 8, 1845, dau. of Nathan and Eliz. (Bell) Waring. Was soldier in first reg. of Continental Army; served under Gen. Israel Putnam; was made commander of a scouting party, taken prisoner, had his wrists bound with parts of iron tongs, put on hot, and sent to New York.
In 1782 he received from Gov. Trumbull of Conn. a commission as capt. and commanded a whale boat in the frontier service from New Haven to Frog's Point; and served not less than 5 years and 8 mos and rcvd. a pension. Res. Norwalk and New Haven Conn. and removed in 1805 to Windham, Greene Co., NY, then in 1827 to Bloomfield, N.Y. had:
