Captain Edward Henry Chawner of Newton Valence and of the 77th Regiment served in part of the Crimean campaign of 1854 and 1855. He inherited Newton Manor Manor House and estate in 1868.
He was the author of 'Gleanings From the German and French Poets' published 1879.
The Captain got into money difficulties and the estate mortgaged until his death in 1916 when the Manor House and estate were sold.
