William Henry Chase is found in the 1850 census of Nantucket, age 25, a mariner, with wife Mary J., age 24, in the household of his mother-in-law Lucinda (Wood) Morris.

He is not found in the 1870 or 1900 census of Nantucket. His wife Mary is found in the 1870 census living in the household of her brother Benjamin J. Morris.

The family lore is that William Henry Chase abandoned his first wife and child, changed his name to George M. Chase, married Mary A. Sylv[i]a or Mary A. Duarte, and raised a second family. See George M. Chase, born 1823-1824 in the "Western Islands" elsewhere in this database.
