The same paper announces the death of Captain G. V. BENTLEY, at his residence, Davoy-street, Hobart Town, of English cholera, on the morning of the 18th instant We may add (says the Mercury) that Captain Bentley was during twenty years conneoted with our mercantile marine, and that in respect to his memory the flags of the vessels in harbour were dipped to half-mat.
As a most singular circumstance we may, likewise, mention that Captain Bentley landed in this colony twenty-seven years ago yesterday, namely, on the 18th of January 1833, fom the ship Clyde*, Captain Ireland.
The funeral took place on Saturday, the remains being carried and the pall borne by members of the Executive Board of the Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company, followed by Mr. Bentley's eldest son, the company's manager, the chief and second officers, steward, and seamen of the City of Hobart, the mournful procession being also accompanied by the captains of vessels in port, members of the Legislative Council, House of Assembly, and Chamber of Commerce, and a large number of the personal merchants, tradesmen, and professional gentlemen within the city. most of them personal friends of the deceased, as a last mark of the affectionate respect in which Captain Bentley was so deservedly held.
