Roger Mills was the pioneer founder of Hume, NY. Having learned of new western lands available from the Holland Purchase, Roger Mills traveled to the remote wilderness to locate and seek his fortune and "plant his destiny". He traveled to what is now called Mills Mills, NY located in the middle of five falls and purchased the land to build mills using the "splendid water power". Roger Mills completed his dream, he built first a saw mill and later a grist mill, supplying two very needed services to the remote region that helped the area grow and prosper.
