About Carl Joseph Ferdinand Schütz

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia. Family moved to the village of Iivanala in Kuolemajärvi, Isthmus of Karelia, Finland, (now part of Polyany, Leningrad oblast, Russia) around 1836. Joined the Life Guard's Finnish Sharpshooter Battalion (Livgardets finska skarpskyttebataljon, Suomen kaarti) in Helsinki on April 1st, 1856 at age 21. Promoted to junior NCO September 9th, 1859, senior NCO August 13th, 1862, Discharged at own request December 31st, 1865. Joined H.R.H. the Crown Prince's Wiborg Finnish Sharpshooter Battalion on January 1st, 1866, discharged on termination of that unit on June 18th, 1868. Employed by the St. Petersburg - Riihimäki Railway on June 20th, 1868, promoted to Station Master at Perkjärvi Station on September 29th, 1869. Moved to Vaasa (Nikolainkaupunki) with his wife and children Eva Teresia, Leontine Charlotta and Karl Rudolf on May 7th, 1885.
