Carl Wilhelm Reinke was born on July 9, 1820 in Briesen C. Wurchow, Pommern, Germany. His parents were Christain and Dorothea (Tesch) Reinke. He was married on November 3, 1845 to Heinrietta Tesh. Her father's name was Otto Tesch. They lived in Bernsdorf, Pommern, Germany. They had 4 children: Julius, born July 3, 1847; August, born May 4, 1849; Emilie (Amelie), born Ju;y 23, 1851; and Gotlieb, born August 27, 1856.
Evidently his wife, Henrietta died between 1856 and 1863, (no records were found, to date, in Germany of the death of his first wife or his marrage to his 2nd wife) because in 1864 Carl Reinke came to the United States with his wife, Fredericke Mielke. A son, Johan Frederick was born on July 2, 1864 on board the boat that took them from the East Coast of the United States to Milwaukee. (This story was told by his descendents).
Five more children were born to them in the US: Gustave, September 17, 1866; Robert, June 21, 1868, Carl (Charles), August 24, 1870; Louise, July 14, 1872 and Ida, October 14, 1874.
After arriving in Milwaukee they moved to Oshkosh, WI and established a home there. Around 1880 they moved to the township of Freedom. They bought a farm and joined the St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
