About Carl or Charles Wehl

From the "South Australian Register" of Friday 5 September 1862:

"Mr. Carl Wehl made a display of fireworks last night, in Mr. A. Mitchell's paddock. The night was splendid. A great number were present, especially of the rising generation, who enjoyed the fun amazingly. The bombs, rockets, coloured lights, and parachute rockets had a fine effect, and it is evident Mr. Wehl is a very good pyrotechnist; but I may mention that the report of fireworks last Sunday evening greatly annoyed some persons who were wending their way to places of worship."

and further in the same publication of Tuesday 23 September 1862:

"Pyrotechnic Display.— A movement is on foot, forgetting up a pyrotechnic display, to be made nv Montetiore Hill on the 9th of November, when the Prince of Wales will be of age. There is a pyrotechnist of great skill, it is said, in Adelaide at the present time, a brother of Dr. Wehl, of Mount Gambier. He has had great experience in Germany, aud would probably be able, at a moderate outlay, to make a magnificent show from so con spicuous a spot as Montefiore Hill. "

and of Saturday 25 October 1862:

"On the 10th of November Mr. Charles Wehl pur poses giving a grand pyrotechnic display' in honor of the coming of age of H.B.H. the Prince of Wales. We are told that the fireworks will cost Mr. Wehl £120 in hard cash, and as he looks to the liberality of the public to reimburse him we hope he will be adequately supported. The ' bill of fare' is of a most tempting character; in fact, we suppose nothing at at all equal to it has been seen in South Australia before."

From "The Star" of Friday 7 November 1862:

"It is stated that Mr Wehl, manufacturer of fire works, has accepted an engagement at the Melbourne Cremorne Gardens, and will shortly leave for Victoria."

Published in "The Star" of Saturday 17 January 1863:

"Mr Charles Wehl, master of pyrotechnics to the King of Hanover, and Mr H. Brook, late of Vaux- hall Gardens, London, gave a pyrotechnical and aeronautic display on Friday evening at the Victoria Gardens, Melbourne Road, which was attended by a large number of persons. The display will be renewed this evening."
