Carley June (Erb) Miller

Carley June Erb Miller, daughter of Jacob and Erma Miller Erb, was born near Wellman, Iowa, on Nov 30, 1922.

She died Tuesday, Aug 7, 2007, in Goshen, Ind, at the age of 84.

On May 24, 1944, she married Galen R. Miller.

To this union were born 2 daughters and 4 sons.

Carley was preceded in death by her husband, Galen; her son, Tillman; a sister, Lois Liechty; and a brother, Lowell Erb.

She is survived by a sister, Shirley Gingerich. The two sisters enjoyed the last four years living together at Evergreen Place in Goshen.

She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carley graduated from Center High School in Kalona, Iowa, and attended Goshen College. Before marriage, she taught in a one-room school house in Iowa and in a public junior high school in Chalfont, Pa. During her husband's medical training and career, Carley lived in Philadelphia, Pa; Cleveland and Canton, Ohio; Minot, ND; and Elkhart, Ind.

She and her husband raised their six children in Elkhart, IN while her husband, a general surgeon, provided medical care in the Elkhart community for more than 35 years.

They both attended Belmont Mennonite Church and Southside Fellowship during their years in Elkhart. In 1989, Carley and Galen retired to Holmes County, Ohio.

Upon the death of her husband in 2001, Carley returned to Indiana, where she lived at Evergreen Place at Greencroft in Goshen. She was a member of College Mennonite Church in Goshen and an associate member of the Berlin Mennonite Church in Berlin, Ohio.

Carley was an enthusiast for any kind of travel. She was also a voracious reader, always with a book in progress. Her humor and persistent positive attitude will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or any other hospice organization.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, Aug 14, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S Main St, Goshen. A memorial service in honor of Carley will take place at 10 am Wednesday, Aug 15, at The Gathering Place of Evergreen at Greencroft. Pastor Klaudia Smucker and Pastor Lee Hochstetler will officiate.
