Carol June Koesterman, 86, Fargo, North Dakota, died Tuesday September 29, at Sanford Health.

Carol June Trudeau (Koesterman) born to Mary and Frank Trudeau at home in New Rockford, North Dakota, June 10, 1929.

Carol graduated from St. James Academy, New Rockford in 1948. She moved to Larimore to reside with her sister Lois and Louis Ostrom, working for Mac’s Café, Corner Café, and L. B Hartz Lunch Counter until her marriage to Lyle Koesterman June 5, 1952.

Carol moved to Rapid City for 4 years where 3 children, Carolyn, Mary and Charles were born. Then moved back to Larimore to own and operate Carol’s Coffee Shop for 2 years when 3 more children Chris, Lynn and Mike were born. Then on to Golden Lake where Spencer the seventh child was born in 1962. They built and operated Golden Lake Store and Café until 1964. Then she moved to Fargo to work at several restaurants, Bowling Alley, Highway Host, and Townhouse, Sweden Houses (Both), Derby, DeLendrecie’s and Walgreen West Acres.

Carol was first cook at St. John’s Hospital until 1992. After retiring, she volunteered for St. John’s until it closed then went on to volunteer at MeritCare South, St. Anthony’s Rectory and FM Food Pantry for 25 years. Over 12,000 hours in all.

Carol raised and loved her roses for over 20 years. She always joked that first she raised cane, then kids, then roses, now she was back to raising cane again at the age of 86. She loved her times at volunteering. She said she felt like she was doing something worthwhile for somebody else. She was also well known at United Blood Services where she was a regular donor, giving over 19 gallons over 65 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Rex) Richey Cheyenne Wyoming, sons, Chris (Gail Smith) Fargo, Mike (Pastor Sue) Moorhead, Spencer, Grand Forks, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Glen, Darrel, Peter, Paul and Duane, and Fritz and sisters Marge and Lois, husband Lyle, daughter Carolyn and son’s Charles and Lynn and daughters -in-law, Holly and Lisa, as well as grandson Zachary.
