"So Caroline Philips (Peter Bertram's wife and my great-grandmother) has been kind of an enigma for me. Marcie Lieser had it in her book that she came over from Germany with her mother, and 2 sisters. Yet when I have been doing searches for her on Ancestry I kept getting hits for a person names Korgel. A few months ago, I decided to start researching that end of the tree.
Here's what I knew from before. She came to America with her Mother, Johanna, and 2 sisters, Anna and Maria. Johanna passed away around 1900 and is buried in St Anthony Catholic Church cemetery in Padua, MN. I also knew that Anna had married a Frank Wotzka, and she also passed away around 1900.
After entering the information that Marcie had in her book, I was contact by a descendant of Anna's, PJ Braun and he filled in the gaps for me. He also got me the family list from when they came to the United States.
This was the reality: Caroline Philips came to the Untied States with her mother, Johanna, sisters, Anna and Maria, step-father, Alois Korgel and 3 half-siblings, Josepha, Joseph and Helena."
