Caroline was the daughter of Nathaniel Whiting and Ida Mercy Young Whiting. She was born in 1809 in Windham, Vermont.
Caroline married Thomas Grover in 1828 in Windham County,Vermont. They were the parents of seven daughters: Jane, Emaline, Mary Elizabeth, Adeline, Caroline, Eliza Ann, and Emma.
Thomas and Caroline suffered many of the trials of the early Mormon Saints in Kirtland, Missouri and Nauvoo.
Many people were inflicted with malaria and other diseases from mosquitoes that thrived in the swamps of Nauvoo. Caroline had remittent, bilious fever for several months and several physicians tried, but could not help her. She was expecting a seventh child, and in her weakened state delivered a baby girl in October 1840. She died a week later. The baby only survived three days longer. After twelve years of marriage, Thomas was left with six little girls, the oldest ten and the youngest now three. Note: Though many headstones have been destroyed or never placed on many of the headstones, church records and Caroline Grover's name is in the gazebo's listing for people who were buried in this cemetery.
