About Caroline Lena Bachrach
Notes for LINA WEINBERG: Comments by Shirley Herz...... I remember his grandmother Lina very well. She was a dear person and her death was quite a blow. She was amazing. She cooked a complete dinner (from soup to nuts) for herself every day. For years she would be at our house every Sunday night for "cold supper" She would also say she couldn't eat anymore but give her "a dear little piece" of whatever it might have been. I also remember Aunt Sarah Rosenblatt. Oddly enough her great grandson, Rodger Hess) lives directly beneath me here at 1120 Park. His mother Wilma Hess died just a few months ago. Comments by Richard Schafer....... My grandmother, Lina Weinberg, was my favorite. She was very bright, a whiz with the stock market back in the depression, and very strong personally. She died in a horrible apartment fire in Philadelphia in 1948, at the age of 83, a few months after she had been at my graduation from the Univ. of Pa. Medical School. She used to tell me about her growing up in Baltimore and I met all of her Weinberg siblings. Henrietta (Aunt Hennie) Hecht was married to one of the distant cousins of the Hecht's dept. store and lived well into her 80's and died in Baltimore. I knew her well--she was mentally sharp but deaf, and a very gentle person and my grandmother's, Lina's, favorite sibling (Lina was the youngest. Her oldest sister, Sarah Rosenblatt, lived in Philadelphia, in the Logan area near my grandmother. She was a grand dame, overbearing person who died in Phila. in the mid 30's at age 85. Uncle Henry Weinberg was the only boy and I believe the second oldest of the four. I met Uncle Henry once when I was about seven and visited Uncle Henry and Aunt Hennie. Uncle Henry was very distinguished-looking with well tailored clothes and a handlebar mustache. I believe he died in Baltimore in the early 30's. I still remember the white stoops and old square trolleys in Baltimore. mustache. I believe he died in Baltimore in the early 30's. I still remember the white stoops and old square trolleys in Baltimore.
