Carolyn G. Tharp Kiger Davenport, 75, of Waynesburg, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 3, 2017. She was born December 5, 1941, in Center Township, a daughter of the late John B. and Gail G. Wendell Tharp.
In 1959, she graduated from West Greene High School and became employed by Berkowitz Clothing Factory. She was a former employee of the naval exchange at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. She was a former employee of Youth Development Center in Waynesburg and retired from the woman's correctional facility in Waynesburg. In 1988, she wed Charles Robert Davenport. She lived in Iceland, Alaska, Japan and numerous other places. She came back to Greene County in 2010 and became active in her community. Mrs. Davenport was a member of Pursley Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed daily Bible study, crochet and doing jigsaw puzzles, as well as spending time with family. Surviving are three children, Cynthia R. (Tim) Kincer of Portsmouth, Va., Laura M. (Dave) Moore of Waynesburg and James A. (Joy) Kiger of Denver, N.C.; three stepchildren, Chauntay (James) Davenport-Jakela and Renard Davenport, both of Washington, and Eadrik (Jodi) Davenport; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Durbin of Center Township and Shirley (Hal) Justice of Stow, Ohio; and five sisters-in-law, Emma Jones, Hazel Bolling, Norma Collins, Florence Thomas and Sylvia Davenport. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Charles Robert Davenport; two sisters, Pauline Strope and Mary Lou Bedilion; and five brothers, Woodrow (Jack) Tharp, Kenneth Tharp, Carl Tharp, John F. Tharp and Fredrick Tharp.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC. 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA 15359, 724-499-5181, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, with Pastor Robert Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg.
