About Carolyn Sloniger

Carolyn K. Sloniger, 72, died October 22, 2020, under Blessing Hospice care at St. Vincent Home in Quincy, her home for the past five years.

Carolyn was hard-working (she began her career immediately after graduating from Quincy High School in 1966), always staying busy, loved being in her kitchen, cooking and canning, and, at Christmastime, making gifts of homemade candy for her co-workers at Gully Transportation where she worked for 24 years. She cared deeply and she gave even when she wasn't in the position to give. She was quick to take people under her wing, not expecting or asking anything in return. After she became physically confined, she enjoyed and produced some beautiful colorings, and appreciated every shopping and/or dining outing she went on, expressing they gave her a sense of normal life.

She had devoted friends, Marsha and Shirley, who visited her and lavished her with thoughtfulness always, and her sister, Ruth, who fed her fondness of collecting Snowbabies.

Carolyn was second oldest of seven. Preceding her in death are her dad and mom (Kenneth and Dorothy), siblings (Ronald and Linda), and brother-in-law (John). She is survived by siblings (Larry (Susan), Roger, Ruth, Karen); nieces (Gina, Sara, Christina, Lauren, Danielle) and a nephew (Jesse); grandnieces (Miranda, Sheali, Meimi, Ameya, Yumei) and grandnephews (Dustin, Xander, Oliver, Zane); and a great-grandnephew (Noah)---all who brightened her day when she got to see them.

She would be glad if she got visits from her children (Scott and Tanya), and always looked forward to seeing, hugging, and putting together gift bags for her grandchildren (Zachary, Dacota, Thomas).

Carolyn appreciated and grew close to many of her caregivers at both Sycamore and St. Vincent homes, and appreciated all the exceptional scheduling Tom of Quincy Paratransit Services did to get her to and from her special outings. She was especially grateful for Martha, who took her under her caring wing.

Thank you to St. Vincent's administration and dietary departments who were so creative with Carolyn's dietary needs, and to all her caretakers. Special thanks to Will Spear and Marcus, and all those at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home who worked together and handled our family's difficult time effortlessly.

No services are planned at this time, but you are invited to make memorials in Carolyn's name to St. Vincent Nursing Home's activity department or Blessing Hospice.
